We enjoyed a great week in the Lewiston Valley visiting several good friends before connecting back with our kids for a two week cruise through Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.....

Our oldest daughter, Chelsey, and family (husband Ryan and grandkids...Jayden and Ethan) joined our cruise with their RV ........ Yellowstone NP, Teton NP and Creaters of the Moon National Monument. We departed Spokane on August 1st...... First stop "Jellystone" of course....

| Of course, Yogi Bear paid Jayden and Ethan a visit!! |
Next stop....West Yellowstone.....................and the grizzly bear recovery center.
| The wolf-pak!! |
The grizzly bear researchers at the center were testing different dumpster designs .......if the bear could not get it open in 90 minutes it is considered "bear proof"
| Fresh Catch!! |
There was also a classic car show in West Yellowstone while there...over 200 classic cars paraded through town and then were displayed at the city park. Some really fine restored cars!!!
| We want this!! |
We rented a van in West Yellowstone and spent 2 full days touring the park.... John toured via the BMW with us. Yellowstone, the first (created in 1872) and largest National Park covers nearly 3,700 square miles (2.2 million acres). The park has now pretty much recovered from the major fires of 1988.
| Biker Buddies!! |
| Mammoth Hot Springs |
| "Where the Buffalo Roam.... |
| And the skies are not cloudy all day...." |
| A majority of the worlds active geysers are in Yellowstone. |
| The Old Faithful Inn is something to see...and it survived the fires unscathed! |
| Grand Canyon of Yellowstone!!! This place was amazing!! |
| Ethan and Jayden explore .... |
| Who da thunk....The boy's loved riding !!! |
| A little acting at the museum,,, |
| The boys completed the Junior Ranger course and were sworn-in at Old Faithful. |
From Yellowstone, it was south to Jackson Hole, WY for a few days...
| The Grand Tetons |
| The Jackson Hole city park has "antler arches" at all 4 entrances |
Next stop...Creaters of the Moon National Monument near Arco, Idaho for a little cave exploring!! In 1923, the area was described as "The surface of the moon as seen through a telescope" and it was dedicated in 1924. This moonscape is the result of repeated surface lava flows originating from the "Great Rift", long fissures in the Snake River Plain some 15,000 years ago. The most recent flow occurred 2,000 ago and the geologists note that the eruption cycle has been every 2,000 years!!
| Moonscape and lava tubes |
The highpoint of the monument is exploring some of the many caves which are actually lava tubes. The lava flows cool at the surface and then the underlying lava recedes, leaving a tube. The ceilings collapse over time, sealing many of the tubes.
| This cave was over 1/4 mile long....note places where the ceiling has collapsed. |
| There was actually ice in this cave, called Boy Scout |
From southern Idaho's moonscape it was time to move north to the Cascade and McCall areas. Beautiful mountains and rivers where we spent many years skiing and hiking.
The RV park in Cascade sits on the Payette River....so it was time to breakout the fishing gear. We also found an abundance of crayfish.....
| Crayfish Appetizers |
| Evening fire along the river....time for "Smores" |
The hunting/gathering was great here...fresh trout and crayfish every night....Life is good!!
| The morning catch...rainbows!! |
| Fish-on!!! |
Well, our two week cruise with the kids passed by way too fast....everyday was packed with new sights and fun activities. As they say, however,...all good things must come to an end...so we followed the kids up to McCall and bid them safe travel home. We will stay in McCall for a few days visiting old friends and then work our way west to western Oregon and Washington to visit more good friends, before parking the RV and returning to Panama and Serena Ray
| McCall city park on the lake |
| Lunch with the kids at our favorite McCall eatery...My Fathers Place. Best burgers around. |
| Saying "Hasta Luego" to the kids!! |
| Sunset on the Payette River |
Until the next blog update...........
