The Living Desert...Living in the Desert

Well, we are winding up our month-long stay in Borrego Springs, CA. It has been wonderful time; hiking, hosting visits from our daughter, Lindsay and significant-other, Ryan, and also Robin, Rosie’s life-long friend and fellow “Ballardite”.  We have proved once again that “Time does fly when you are having fun”.

The De Anza Borrego desert is a wonderful place, extremely quiet, sunny and warm, very much alive and extremely scenic.  Over the course of the past month we hiked over 125 desert miles exploring many canyons and oases of the area (we actually touched only a very small portion of what is here).  The nights here are simply fantastic, most often crystal clear and extremely dark… as a result the stars and Milky Way seen to blanket the desert, the same way they blanketed the ocean when were miles offshore on Serena Ray.  The following are few shots that capture just a small amount of the beauty we found here in Borrego…enjoy.

Nuestra nueva casa..

Now this is really crazy!…… Believe it or not…. we found this area so pleasing that we have purchased a home here, not far from the home we leased for the last month.  John’s folks lived here for over 20 years, so he spent time here cycling and hiking and fell in love with the area.  Our home in Blaine has been listed for sale (anyone looking for a place on the water ….just across the Georgia Strait from the San Juan and Gulf Islands of British Columbia??? Just let us know :)  Until it sells, we will likely split time between both places (summer only for Blaine, however!!).
