Mazatlan - All Remains Quiet in Eastern Pacific (that is a good thing!)

We have been back home in Mazatlan for a month already.  The weather has been generally good....more humid now than the winter months and frequent evening lightning storms to keep you on your toes...

We returned from our Land Cruise in the States on the 22nd of August, already a month has passed by.  When we arrived, we had only 2 days to "ready" Serena Ray for her haulout..... new bottom paint and a coat of wax.  Serena Ray was "on the hard" for a total of 6 days.  This time we opted to take a room at the nearby El Cid Resort, as power is limited in the boatyard and it's up and down a 12 foot ladder everytime.  We have stayed aboard Serena Ray in a boatyard (Newport Beach last October)...and decided the we have "been there, done that".

There ia a beuatiful beach near the El Cid hotel and also 2 pools...which were sure refreshing with temperatures in the 90's and humidity approaching the same!!

Serena Ray re- launched "on schedule" and the work done by Rick Cummings (Marine Services Mazatlan) and his crew was excellent.  In fact, the quality of their work (prepping the bottom and hull wax, for example) far exceeded similar work we have had done in the States (and at a much better price!!)

On September 15th, Mexico celebrated its 200th Independence Day (Independence from Spain).  It is actually a 3-day event...parties, fireworks, parades etc........

Mazatlan Malecon

Every city in Mexico has a major parade and Mazatlan was no exception.  We bused downtown to the malecon to "partake" in the festivities.  The parade started at dusk was very, very impressive!!!.... the first 30 to 45 minutes of the parade was military with all their various weapons/equipment, which was very impressive. I think every school in the state had drill teams in the parade.

As is common in Mexico, the malecon is the central place to meet, relax, play....evenings and weekends are very busy.

Our days are spent working on Serena Ray, walking, and shopping ......and simply enjoying Mazatlan......  However, we are starting to look forward to cutting the dock lines and moving on...only 5 weeks until hurricane season officially ends for the year and we will then start south.  Hope our update finds you well.  Until the next update..
