Blaine to Naniamo

Here we head North out of Blaine, never tiring of viewing the Semiahmoo water tower and beautiful area. We set our auto pilot straight for Active Pass (well named) which is between Saturna and Galiano Islands. Several ferries and boats run through the busy and winding pass.

We anchored three nights in Montague Harbour. While there, we met Ian and Mary on Aegis, another Nordhavn. Nice folks from Nanaimo and we hope to see them later this summer. This is one of the reasons we cruise--to meet wonderful people and visit beautiful places.

We were disappointed that, for the first time in our 35 years of cruising that our crab pot was stolen while at Montague.

There is always so much to do. While at anchor, we spent a fair amount of time organizing our charts for planning our route north to Glacier Bay in Alaska. Too much to see, too little time.........We took a hike in the park and I spent some time beginning to knit an afghan.

On the way to Nanaimo boats have to pass through Dodd Narrows between Vancouver Island and Mudge Island and the smallest opening is around 30 to 50 yards. Boat must wait until near slack tide to enter and then the boats file through.

Reaching Nanaimo, we anchored in Mark Bay across from the city and bought some hiking boots and of course a few more boat things......also went to dinner at the Dinghy Dock which is one of our favorite places. Weather was wet but we did manage to get a hike in at Newcastle Island. This fellow rowed past us on his way to the city.

Next stop: Pender Harbour where we will pick up Arne and Judy and we'll go up the Jervis Inlet to Princess Louisa Marine Park and Chatterbox Falls.
